Microsoft Set to Release Surface Laptop Studio 2 with Updated Hardware and Graphics

Microsoft, after skipping 2022 with the introduction of the first Surface Laptop Studio in 2021, is expected to unveil another impressive iteration, the ‘Surface Laptop Studio 2’, later this year. According to reliable sources cited by Windows Central, this eagerly anticipated device, hailed as “the wave of the future” in a Surface Laptop Studio review, is set to receive significant hardware upgrades from Intel and Nvidia.

The leaked Geekbench benchmarks indicate that Microsoft might forgo the Core i5 model and focus on offering the 13th-gen Core i7-13700 (the entry-level version) and Core i7-13800. These benchmarks demonstrate promising performance, with the alleged Surface Laptop Studio 2 achieving a single-core score of 2,564 and a multi-core score of 12,463. Such scores surpass the previous generation’s single-core score of 1,973 and multi-core score of 6,788.

When it comes to graphics capabilities, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 is expected to feature the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. This high-performance graphics solution is commonly found in laptops catering to creators and professionals in media-related fields, emphasizing image and video capture as well as editing, rather than intense gaming.

In terms of design, Windows Central reports that the Surface Laptop Studio 2 is likely to retain the same aesthetic as its predecessor. This decision aligns with Microsoft’s tendency to focus on internal component upgrades rather than wholesale redesigns. Notably, the most recent substantial change in their hardware lineup was the inclusion of a Thunderbolt connector in the Surface Duo 2 and Surface Pro line, accompanied by an additional camera. For now, details regarding distinctive new features are scarce.

Initially, Geekbench benchmarks hinted at a spring launch for the Surface Laptop Studio 2, but a fall release appears more plausible. Building on the aggressive and innovative redesign seen in the original Surface Laptop Studio, Microsoft aims to continue revolutionizing the Surface experience with the Surface Laptop 2.

In a market constantly evolving with cutting-edge technology advancements, Microsoft’s commitment to pushing boundaries and delivering top-notch hardware remains unwavering. The Surface Laptop Studio 2 is poised to be a formidable contender in the realm of premium laptops, catering to discerning users seeking power, versatility, and exceptional design.

According to Windows Central, the Surface Laptop 2 (codenamed “Ersa” (not “Ursa” is Latin for bear)) will be announced alongside other Surface products this fall. Windows Central reported, citing unnamed sources, that Surface Laptop Studio 2, which Surface Laptop Studio review called “the wave of the future,” will be updated with the latest hardware from Intel and Nvidia.

Additionally, based on leaked Geekbench benchmarks, Windows Central predicts that Microsoft will skip the Core i5 model and stick with the 13th-gen Core i7-13700 (the entry-level version) and Core i7-13800. In the leaked benchmark scores, the supposed Surface Laptop Studio 2 product scored a single-core score of 2,564 and a multi-core score of 12,463. This is higher than the previous single-core 1,973 points and multi-core 6,788 points.

In terms of graphics, Microsoft is expected to offer an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. These GPUs are typically found in “Creator” versions of popular laptops, such as the Surface Studio Laptop, which focus on image and video capture and editing rather than hardcore gaming.

Meanwhile, Windows Central says that the Surface Laptop Studio 2 will retain the same design as its predecessor, which is entirely believable. Microsoft rarely redesigns its hardware, with the most recent significant change being the addition of a Thunderbolt connector to the Surface Duo 2 (with an extra camera) and the Surface Pro line. Instead, they often update internal components. As for the new features, not much is known at the moment, Windows Central added.

Geekbench benchmarks originally suggested that the Surface Laptop Studio 2 would arrive in the spring, but now a fall update seems likely. With the Surface Laptop Studio, Microsoft redesigned the Surface in an aggressive and playful way. The Surface Laptop 2 is expected to continue that legacy.
