According to Phone Arena, on the 12th (local time), Microsoft applied for a patent titled “Foldable Computing Device Back Cover Plate” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office last month.
According to the patent document, the foldable phone’s “back cover” covers and protects the area where the hinge and display come into contact. In this regard, MS explained: “By closing the gap between the hinges, you can prevent dust and water from entering the device.”
MS introduced the dual-display smartphone “Surface Duo” in 2020. Unlike the Galaxy Z series, the Speed Duo featured two flat displays split on two sides. However, the Surface Duo was not chosen by consumers and disappeared after the Surface Duo 2.
Regarding MS’s foldable phone patent, Phone Arena predicted: “We have to wait and see if MS will release a foldable phone in the future.”
