Middle East on Brink: Japan’s Kamikawa Warns Iran to Show Restraint Amid Escalating Tensions
Japan Urges Iran to Exercise Restraint Amid Middle East Tensions
Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa recently met with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi in New York, where he emphasized the importance of avoiding retaliatory attacks and a chain of violence in the region.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of a tense Middle East situation, following a large-scale attack by the Israeli military on Hezbollah, an Islamic Shiite organization in neighboring Lebanon, which resulted in numerous casualties.
During the meeting at the UN headquarters, Foreign Minister Kamikawa urged Iran to exercise maximum restraint, citing the need to prevent further escalation of violence in the region.
He also called on Iran to use its influence to urge restraint from Hezbollah and the Houthis, an anti-government group in Yemen, in order to reduce tensions in the region.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Kamikawa expressed strong concern about allegations that Iran was providing ballistic missiles to Russia, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Despite the current tensions, the two foreign ministers agreed to continue dialogue at various levels, building on the traditionally friendly relations between Japan and Iran.
