British Foreign Secretary Calls for Ceasefire Amid Escalation in Lebanon
Moscow, Russia – British Foreign Secretary David Lammy expressed shock at the escalation between Israel and Lebanon and called on both sides to immediately cease fire.
Lammy wrote on his social media page: “I am deeply shocked by the missile strikes and air strikes in Lebanon and Israel and the resulting civilian deaths. Further escalation has the potential to have even more devastating consequences. I once again call on both sides to immediately cease fire, and I will draw attention to this aspect when I meet with G7 ministers.”
Israeli aircraft launched a large-scale attack on settlements in southern and eastern Lebanon from the morning of September 23. Dozens of villages and some local settlements were destroyed. Hezbollah also fired dozens of rockets into northern Israel. The Lebanese government has called on the United Nations to intervene and stop Israel’s aggression.
Media reports suggest that Israel plans to launch a ground operation in Lebanon to create a buffer zone.
