Jingmei Middle School’s Admission Scores Drop, Principal Zhou Huanzhu Shares Insights

(Central News Agency reporter Chen Yuting, Taipei, the 21st) Netizens pointed out that the admission score of Taipei Municipal Jingmei Middle School in Jibei District had dropped to 28th, sparking heated discussions. Principal Zhou Wenzhu said today that grades do not mean everything, and teaching success or failure should not be judged by scores, what is more important is that students can bravely face life’s challenges.

Taipei City Education Bureau today held the 113th School Year Special Outstanding Teacher Award Ceremony to praise 27 award-winning teachers, among them, the staff of Jingmei Middle School won 3 awards in the Guidance and Special Education Division, School Administration Division.

In his acceptance speech, Zhou Wenzhu wrote that he has worked for 40 years and will always win this award and that he will continue to demonstrate his professionalism, study diligently and support his integrity and hard work in the educational environment that I have always loved.

In a joint interview with the media, Zhou Huanzhu said that this award is the highest honor for teachers, especially that 3 of this year’s 27 awardees represent the dedication of all teachers to student education as a result of the joint efforts of teachers and students.

Regarding netizens’ heated discussion about Jingmei Middle School’s declining admission scores, Zhou Huanzhu pointed out that the scores must be high or low, but that does not mean everything, whether students can take the initiative, comparing the admission scores to the three years of high school learning of themselves and others. And the power of love deserves more attention.

He stressed that today’s society is very diverse and everyone has a different definition of success. School teaching success or failure should not be judged by scores, more importantly students may face many challenges in the future.

Zhu Wenzhou said that the vision of Jingmei Middle School is joy, warmth and innovation. We hope students can grow up happily, maintain self-confidence and physical and mental health, and create a warm learning environment for students to freely develop their potential. , and at the same time use innovation and foresight to communicate with others and teach students skills they can take away.

Zhang Peiki, president of the Taipei Federation of Junior High School Parents Association, said it was indeed found that children were willing to choose schools near MRT stations, compared to the past, when admission scores were the main consideration. But they prefer convenient transportation and don’t need to use the bus to school.

However, Zhang Peiki believes that the performance of school curriculum system, school development and school management if we only look at admission scores, are many high schools in the same grade? Pity for the generalization.

Zhang Peiki advised parents that the new curriculum emphasizes diverse and independent learning, how they plan the curriculum, respect children’s interests and communicate more, otherwise, forcing them to study in subjects they don’t want. both sides
