Mike Love Enters Songwriters Hall of Fame Amidst Brian Wilson Tribute

A bittersweet atmosphere filled the Marriott Marquis in New York Thursday night as Beach Boys’ frontman Mike Love, 84, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The honor came a day after the death of his cousin and bandmate, Brian wilson, at age 82.
Love acknowledged Wilson’s significant role in his career during his acceptance speech. He specifically thanked Wilson, stating, “I believe he’s here with us.” Love also recognized their collaborative impact, noting they “set the stage for some of the most triumphant music collaborations of all time.”
John Stamos, the “Full House” actor and longtime honorary Beach Boy, inducted Love. Stamos lauded Love’s role in crafting ”the sound of a generation” during the 1960s. He described love as “a composer whose melodies shaped millions of dreams.” Stamos highlighted how Love’s lyrics painted vivid pictures of the American dream, filled with surfboards, convertibles, and harmonies.
Following his acceptance, Love and Stamos performed several Beach Boys hits, including “California Girls,” ”I Get Around,” “Kokomo,” and “Good Vibrations.”
Stamos, 61, revealed he delivered the news of Wilson’s death to Love while en route to the ceremony. Stamos recounted Love’s initial reaction: “Mike, your cousin passed away, and his face went blank… he didn’t say one word for two and a half hours.”
Love joins other 2025 inductees, including funk icon George Clinton, the Doobie Brothers’ Michael McDonald, Tom Johnston, and Patrick Simmons, R&B producer Rodney Jerkins, contry artist Ashley Corley, and British songwriter Tony Macaulay.
Stephen Schwartz,composer of “Wicked,” received the Johnny Mercer Award,while gracie abrams was honored with the Hal David Starlight Award.
