anaheim, CA – A tense afternoon at Angel Stadium saw both the Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers benches clear after a series of hit batters and heated exchanges, though ultimately, no ejections occurred and the game continued. The incident, which saw four Angels players plunked by pitches, ignited a fiery response from Angels manager Ron Washington, who questioned the frequency of the hits.

Washington’s Frustration Boils Over

The tension escalated in the sixth inning when Rangers pitcher Cody Bradford hit Angels star Mike Trout. This followed earlier hit batters to the Angels’ second baseman, shortstop, and another player. Washington, visibly agitated, approached the umpire and voiced his concerns.

“We know these guys so well,” Washington said after the game. “I don’t think the intent was anything more than obviously guys getting hit. But in the same breath, you get four hit-by-pitches,you hit our second baseman, our shortstop, and then Mike. The only thing I said was, ‘How many times are you going to hit a guy?’ I wasn’t insinuating that they were intentional.”

Rangers Manager Responds to the Uproar

Rangers manager bruce Bochy, while not hearing Washington’s exact words, took issue with the Angels’ manager’s actions. Bochy emphasized that his team was not intentionally targeting Angels hitters.”I just heard the yelling and that was enough,” Bochy stated. “I brought [Armstrong] in to keep them from scoring a run. But I guess we hit somebody and its intentional, but when they hit [Corey] Seager it’s not. I just thought that was enough.”

Benches and Bullpens Erupt

The exchange led to both dugouts and bullpens emptying onto the field, creating a chaotic scene.Relievers from both teams streamed in from the outfield, adding to the palpable tension.

Despite the heated moments, Rangers catcher Kyle Higashioka acknowledged the Angels’ perspective. “It’s understandable,” Higashioka commented. “We’re obviously not trying to hit them, but you can see their side, too. They have every right to be pissed about it.For me, it’s just part of the game.”

Trout Appreciates Managerial Support

Mike Trout, who indicated the pitch struck the padding on his hand, expressed his recognition for Washington’s defense of him and his teammates.

“The boys loved it,” Trout said with a smile. “just sticking up for his players, sticking up for his guys. It’s fun to see.”

Game Continues, Jansen Secures Save

The incident ultimately did not result in any ejections, and the game resumed. Nolan Schanuel provided an insurance run for the Angels with a sacrifice fly against reliever grant Anderson before Taylor Ward struck out to end the inning.

Angels closer Kenley Jansen remained ready in the bullpen throughout the commotion and entered the game in the ninth inning to record his 20th save of the season, continuing his strong performance with his 13th career season of at least 20 saves.

“Somebody had to close the ballgame,” Jansen said with a grin. “So I wasn’t going to let that get me out of my game. I prefer to stay on the mound and stay focused to help this team win.”
