Miley Cyrus Says Dad Billy Ray Smoked Pot on ‘Hannah Montana’ Set, She Got the Blame
Updated June 20, 2025
Miley Cyrus is recalling a hazy memory from her “Hannah Montana” days. The singer claims her father,Billy Ray Cyrus, enjoyed smoking pot on set,and she ended up taking the heat for it. Cyrus, now 32, shared the anecdote on her mother Tish Cyrus and sister Brandi Cyrus’ “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast, calling it her most “hilarious” memory from the Disney Channel show.
“Dad smoking pot and everyone blaming me for it. It’s hilarious,” Cyrus said. “He wasn’t sharing ’cause Tish wasn’t toking yet.”
Tish cyrus confirmed the story, adding that she initially defended Billy Ray, who she divorced in 2023, and tried to pin the blame on Mitchel Musso, Miley’s co-star.

“They where calling me, saying B-Ray was smoking pot, and I was saying: ‘Absolutely not, he would never do that. It’s Mitchel Musso,'” Tish Cyrus joked.
Miley then chimed in, “Well, it was Mitchel. it was Mitchel Musso! It was both.”
However, Musso, who played Oliver on “Hannah Montana,” remembers things differently. In a statement to E! News, the 33-year-old said, “Well, that’s not how I remember it. Though, I’ve got plenty of stories from those years that might be worth having a conversation about.” He added, “If we’re revisiting Hannah Montana history – just say the word. All love to Miley and the fam … even when the rewrites get this creative.”

The podcast episode also touched on a recent incident where Tish Cyrus seemingly unfollowed Miley on Instagram after Miley visited Billy Ray. Miley clarified that it was just a “bug” in Meta that unfollows the person with whom you engage the most.
“If you were in the family or not in the family, it was weird timing. I went to see B-Ray, and you did mysteriously unfollow me – and then you got some backlash and suddenly knew how to press that follow button,” miley joked.
“The truth is boring. There’s a bug in meta, it naturally unfollows the person that you follow with the most engagement … I was either, like: ‘Mom lost her glasses and can’t see,’ which is what I thought happened. Then, there was actually a bug in Meta.”
