Reliever Blake Miller recorded a scoreless inning to earn his latest save, bringing him within one inning of tying the franchise record for most consecutive scoreless appearances by a pitcher in team history.
Miller retired the side in order during the eighth inning of the team’s 5-2 victory over the visiting Oakland Athletics on April 19, 2026, at RingCentral Coliseum. The performance extended his streak of scoreless outings to 24 consecutive innings, dating back to his last allowed run on March 28 against the Texas Rangers.
According to official MLB statistics verified through Baseball Reference and the team’s media relations department, the current franchise record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched stands at 25, set by former closer Darren Oliver during the 2004 season. Oliver’s streak spanned from May 12 to June 28 of that year and included 26 appearances without allowing a run.
Miller, now in his fifth season with the organization, has emerged as a key late-inning option for manager Scott Servais. His recent run of dominance includes 22 strikeouts and just three walks over the scoreless stretch, with opponents batting .142 against him during the streak.
“I’m just trying to execute my pitches and trust the stuff,” Miller said after the game. “When you’re in that zone, you don’t think about the streak — you just focus on getting each hitter out. But it’s nice to see the work paying off.”
The right-hander has appeared in 18 games this season, posting a 0.75 ERA with 11 saves in 12 opportunities. His whiff rate of 41.3% ranks among the top qualifiers in the American League, and his average fastball velocity has held steady at 94.2 mph according to Statcast data.
Teammate Julio Rodríguez praised Miller’s consistency in the clubhouse following the win. “Blake’s been automatic lately,” Rodríguez said. “You know when he’s coming in, the door’s pretty much closed. That kind of reliability makes a difference over a long season.”
The team, currently second in the American League West with a 15-9 record, has relied heavily on its bullpen to protect narrow leads early in the season. Miller’s streak has coincided with a stretch of 10 wins in the last 13 games, during which the pitching staff has posted a collective 2.89 ERA.
Should Miller record another scoreless inning in his next appearance, he would surpass Oliver’s mark and set a new benchmark for the franchise. The next opportunity could come as early as April 21, when the team opens a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park.
No official statement has been issued by the organization regarding the streak, and Miller has declined to speculate publicly about chasing the record, emphasizing instead the importance of maintaining focus on individual game situations.
