New episode of these tensions: the attack Tuesday evening on the Democratic deputy of Somali origin, Ilhan Omar, a figure of the American left, during a public meeting in Minneapolis. Shooting of Civilian Sparks Outrage, Homeland Security Investigates
Two police officers shot a civilian five seconds after a federal agent announced, “He has a gun!” according to a preliminary report from the Department of Homeland Security sent to Congress and reported Tuesday.
The incident has drawn swift condemnation. NBA star Victor Wembanyama reacted to the news, stating, “Its crazy that people are trying to act as if murdering civilians was something acceptable.”
The anti-migrant operation is now being led by Tom Homan, a former official under Donald Trump. Homan met Tuesday with local Democratic officials who have been sharply critical of the eviction operations.
“Even if we don’t agree on everything, these meetings are a productive starting point,” Homan posted on X.
The Department of Homeland Security investigation is ongoing.
