Investigation Continues After⁢ Break-in at Slain Minnesota Representative’s⁢ Home

Brooklyn Park, Minn. — Authorities are investigating a break-in at‍ the home of former Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman, who was slain earlier this month. the incident was reported Wednesday.

According to the Brooklyn Park police Department, the overnight ⁤break-in caused damage to the residence. Plywood covering the windows was torn off,adn a window was broken. Crime scene investigators processed the home Saturday and secured it Sunday morning.

“The home was once ‍again processed by crime scene investigators for⁢ evidence of the burglary,” the department said. “The home appeared to have been ⁣searched by an unknown ⁣individual; though, the ⁢family ⁤has indicated that they⁢ don’t⁢ believe anything is missing.”

Police ⁣said family members had removed ⁤valuables from ⁢the home before the break-in. They are asking ⁤neighbors and witnesses to report any relevant information.

Vance Boelter, the suspect in Hortman’s double murder, faces six federal and⁢ four state charges related to multiple shootings of Minnesota Democrats. He was apprehended ⁤early Monday⁢ in a wooded area near his Minneapolis⁣ home.

Following his arrest, federal prosecutors charged Boelter wiht first-degree murder, ⁢stalking, and firearms violations. he allegedly impersonated⁤ an officer to gain entry‍ to the Hortmans’ home before the killings, described as a⁢ politically motivated attack. The role of political extremism and the role of online radicalization are under scrutiny as investigators piece together boelter’s motives and the role he played in the tragic events.
