Authorities are conducting a manhunt in Minnesota for a suspect in the shooting of two state lawmakers at their Twin Cities homes. Gov. Tim Walz described the incident as a ”politically motivated assassination.” The Minnesota lawmaker shooting has shaken the state, prompting a large-scale search and inquiry.
The shooting resulted in the death of State House Democratic Leader Melissa Hortman, 55, and her husband, Mark. State sen. John Hoffman, 60, chairman of the Senate Human Services Committee, and his wife, Yvette, sustained injuries and are currently hospitalized. Both underwent surgery, and Walz saeid he is “cautiously optimistic” they will survive.
Officials identified the suspect as Vance Luther Boelter, 57. as of early Sunday, he remained at large. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction. The FBI is assisting local law enforcement in the search.
