Jennifer Lynn Lieber, the estranged wife of a Delta Airlines pilot, has been sentenced to 25.5 years in prison for the second-degree murder of her cousin and romantic partner, David J. Nanovic.

The sentencing took place on April 7, 2026, following a conviction for the fatal shooting of Nanovic inside Lieber’s $1.7 million mansion in Credit River, located in Scott County, Minnesota.

The March 2024 Altercation

According to court records, the incident occurred on March 4, 2024. Lieber, who was 45 years old at the time, had been consuming beer and blackberry brandy while watching television with Nanovic and his 10-year-old son.

The March 2024 Altercation

During the evening, Lieber became agitated and retrieved a handgun. She began acting erratically, brandishing the weapon and threatening to harm herself and others. These actions caused alarm for Nanovic, his son, and Lieber’s own children.

Nanovic’s son told police that Lieber directed racial slurs and other abusive remarks at Nanovic during the tirade. The child described the home environment as living in hell.

Nanovic and his son initially managed to escape the main house and flee to a pool house on the property. Later, Lieber’s biological children went to the pool house and asked Nanovic to check on the dogs remaining inside the main residence.

As the father and son attempted to return to the house, they were met by Lieber. She threatened them again and fired a shot, though the bullet missed everyone present.

Following the altercation, Lieber confessed to police that she really f–ked up before officers discovered Nanovic’s bloodied body.

Relationship and Background

Court filings reveal that Nanovic was Lieber’s cousin. During her marital separation from her husband, Lieber had invited Nanovic and his son to reside in her pool house.

While Nanovic was staying on the property, the two developed a romantic relationship and became live-in partners.

The legal proceedings concluded with Lieber being found guilty of second-degree murder, resulting in the prison term of 25 and a half years.
