Senegal emerged victorious in the second round of African Cup of Nations qualifiers, defeating Burundi 1-0 at the latter’s stadium.
Ismaila Sarr scored the decisive goal for Senegal, securing a crucial win for his team.
The match was officiated by Egyptian referee Mohamed Marouf, who played a pivotal role in the outcome of the game.
In the 71st minute, Marouf awarded a penalty kick to Senegal, which was initially intended for Sadio Mane. However, Mane was forced to leave the field for treatment, allowing Sarr to take the penalty kick instead.
Sarr successfully converted the penalty kick, scoring the winning goal for Senegal.
The win propelled Senegal to fourth place in the group standings, while Burundi remained stagnant in third position.
The current group standings have Burkina Faso in third place with one point, while Malawi trails behind with no points.
