Director Lee Hwan-kyung has begun production on the Indonesian father-son drama Gasigogi,
starring Vino G. Bastian, Pevita Pearce, Faradina Mufti, and Indra Jegel.
Falcon Pictures and Hwantasy Entertainment unveiled the ensemble cast for the new project, which follows a father named Jiwa as he fights to save his son Juna from blood cancer. Bastian plays the lead role of Jiwa, while Mufti appears as Chitra and Pearce serves as co-lead. The supporting cast features Altaaf Akavi, Indro Warkop, Dea Panendra, Sadana Agung, Irma Novita Rihi, Luisa Adreena, Pritt Timothy, Verdi Solaiman, and Kiki Narendra.
Lee Hwan-kyung Returns to Directing With an Indonesian Cast
The film marks Lee’s return to directing following the success of the Indonesian version of his earlier phenomenon Miracle in Cell No. 7,
which also starred Bastian. Lee described Gasigogi
as the most emotionally demanding film he has undertaken. The filmmaker made his earlier phenomenon as a gift to his daughter, whereas his newest drama is dedicated to his son.
The production’s working title takes its cue from the stickleback fish. In that species, the male remains alone with the eggs, defending them from predators until his body gives out. His flesh then becomes the hatchlings’ first food. Lee uses this biological cycle as a central metaphor for parental sacrifice.
Cast Members Share Emotional Stakes of the Production
Cast members outlined the heavy emotional weight of the narrative as production got underway. Bastian spoke about taking on the demanding role in the Falcon Pictures production.
To be trusted with a story of this magnitude is both an incredible honor and a tremendous emotional challenge. Director Lee has crafted a raw, devastating, and beautiful narrative about what a father will endure for his child.
Vino G. Bastian
Mufti also discussed connecting with her character through her own life experiences as a parent. She expressed gratitude to the studio and director for the opportunity to portray Chitra.
As a mother myself, this story feels very close to my heart. It reminds me that love isn’t always expressed through words, but often through the things we do and the sacrifices we make for our children.
Faradina Mufti
Filming in Indonesia for an Original Family Story
Lee has emphasized that Gasigogi
is not intended to transfer Korean emotion wholesale into an Indonesian setting. Instead, the director intends for the project to resonate by focusing on Indonesia’s strong attachment to family, faith, and community, aiming to create a work that breathes with Indonesian lungs.

Just as a father gives everything to his child, I want to pour everything I have into creating a precious gift for this family. The name of that gift is ‘Gasigogi.’ The goal is simple: I want to create a film so honest and resonant that when the credits roll, the first thing the audience wants to do is call their father.
Lee Hwan-kyung
Falcon producer Frederica emphasized that the combined commitment of the director and the ensemble will make Gasigogi
a truly special project. The studio believes this film will leave a lasting, emotional legacy for Indonesian cinema and audiences everywhere.
