Spontaneous Ignition of Chemicals in Truck Load: Firefighters Take Safety Measures

On October 28th, at approximately 4:50 p.m., fire authorities were dispatched to a public parking lot in Usan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, after smoke was seen rising from a 1-ton truck carrying aluminum powder mixed chemicals.
Firefighting authorities took swift action, relocating five 200-liter drums containing the chemicals to a deserted farm road. They mixed the chemicals with sand and implemented safety measures until the smoke dissipated.
Fortunately, there were no reported casualties resulting from this incident.
The chemical in question is known to ignite spontaneously when it comes into contact with moisture or air humidity.
Firefighting authorities and local government officials believe that the chemical ignited spontaneously and are currently investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
