(Hanoi = Yonhap News) Reporter Beomsu Kim = A survivor was found two days after a landslide occurred in a mining area in the southern Philippines.

According to AFP on the 9th, disaster authorities in the province of Davao de Oru on the southern island of Mindanao announced that they had found a survivor of a young woman 60 hours after the accident.

Rescue workers dug through the dirt with their bare hands and shovels, found the girl, and took her to hospital.

Authorities did not release the girl’s age.

“The discovery of survivors was a miracle and gave hope to rescue workers,” said Edward Macapili, a disaster official in Davao de Oro province.

The landslide occurred in a mountainous area in Davao de Oro Province on the night of the 6th.

At the time, three 60-seater buses and a 36-seater jeepney for transporting miners, as well as nearby houses, were buried in the soil.

According to the authorities, at least 11 people were killed and 31 injured in the accident.

The number of people who are missing reaches over 100, and the number of deaths is expected to increase further.

Rescue workers mobilized sniffer dogs to search the crash site, but the rain made their work difficult.

Heavy rains have continued in Mindanao for several weeks recently.

This led to a series of landslides, and it was found that at least 18 people died last week.

In the Philippines, landslides occur frequently in mountainous areas due to deforestation due to mining and logging development and heavy rains.
