There is a story of a man from Brazil who luckily survived by avoiding his heart despite having an iron rod about 1 meter long piercing his whole body.

On the 6th (local time), foreign media, including Britain’s The Sun, reported on a case published in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports last April.

According to reports, a 57-year-old man who was working on a construction site in the state of Paraná, Brazil, slipped from scaffolding (a temporary structure installed to enable work in high places during construction work) and fell on a metal pillar. .

During this process, an iron rod approximately 1 meter long penetrated through the man’s perineum and into his chest.

The man was immediately taken to hospital. His heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels were all stable, but a CT scan revealed that a 1m long iron rod had penetrated his perineum and crossed his abdomen and chest cavity.

The iron rod pierced the man’s yoke and diaphragm, but fortunately his heart narrowly missed. The medical staff immediately performed emergency surgery to remove damaged tissue and iron rods through a sternotomy, a cut in the sternum (breast bone), and stitch up the wound.

Surprisingly, the patient started walking and was able to eat just two days after the operation. 12 days after the operation, abnormal scar tissue was found in part of the urethra during a discharge examination, so it was decided to carry out an additional operation for this. However, the report did not reveal whether surgery was carried out or whether follow-up treatment was provided.
