Interview with Dr. Anya Petrova on the Zaporizhzhia Clinic Strike
ND3: Dr. Petrova, thank you for joining us today. Can you tell us about the situation at the private clinic in Zaporizhzhia following yesterday’s missile strike?
Dr. Petrova: It’s a truly devastating situation. The clinic, which served a vital role in providing care for the local community, was hit directly. The blast caused immense damage, and the loss of life is tragic. We we’re fortunate to recently evacuate several critical cases before the strike.
ND3: What where the immediate challenges faced by medical responders in the aftermath of the attack?
Dr. petrova: Accessing the site was difficult due to the significant damage and the risk of further attacks. Manny of the injured were trapped beneath rubble, requiring extensive rescue efforts. The clinic itself sustained heavy structural damage, making it unsafe for immediate treatment of the most severely injured.
ND3: How has this attack impacted the healthcare system in Zaporizhzhia, already strained by the ongoing war?
Dr. Petrova: This is a major blow to our already limited medical resources. The destruction of this clinic leaves a void in the provision of essential care. Not only have we lost valuable medical personnel and vital equipment, but the attack also creates a climate of fear and distrust, discouraging people from seeking medical attention when they desperately need it.
ND3: What message do you have for the international community in light of this tragedy?
Dr. Petrova: The people of Zaporizhzhia need continued support. We need medical supplies, urgent medical assistance, and reinforcement of our healthcare infrastructure. Most importantly, we need the international community to pressure for an end to these senseless attacks on civilians and crucial infrastructure. Peace is the only true solution.
