Miwon Invests Millions in Spain, Expanding Production and R&D in Europe
MANRESA, Spain (April 2, 2025) — South Korean chemical company Miwon has substantially expanded its European operations with the completion of a new production plant and research and development center in Manresa, Catalonia, Spain. The expansion represents a multi-million euro investment and underscores the company’s commitment to the European market.

Facility Expansion and Capabilities
The expanded facility adds 1,300 square meters to Miwon’s existing footprint in the Bupal Vent Industrial Complex. This expansion includes enhanced production capabilities, modern office spaces, and a dedicated R&D institute to support the company’s broader research initiatives. Miwon first established a presence in the region in 2014 and currently employs 50 people at the Manresa plant.
Government support and Investment
The Catalan government,through its investment attraction agency,Axio,supported the project with a grant of 230,000 euros (approximately $250,000 USD) via the “Go Young-hyang Corporate Investment Subsidies” program,wich supports high-impact business investments in the region.
Focus on Sustainability
According to Joachim Zoeller, the Manresa factory manager, miwon is committed to lasting practices. “Through differentiated management of the production process and a refined water treatment system, we have achieved a 30% reduction in water consumption,” Zoeller said. the company is actively developing products for the paint, adhesive, and ink industries, with a strong emphasis on environmentally friendly production methods. the expansion will enable Miwon to launch an eco-friendly production line that utilizes water-based solutions rather of solvents.
UV Resin specialization
Miwon specializes in the manufacturing of ultraviolet (UV) hardening resins, an eco-friendly technology used in glue and paint applications that reduces air pollution.
Future Growth Plans
A representative of Miwon’s Spanish subsidiary stated the company plans to create 5-10 jobs annually in the coming years,signaling continued growth and investment in the region.
Government Perspective
oriol Alcoba, head of the Catalan government industry, attended the opening ceremony and emphasized the significance of Miwon’s investment. “Miwon’s additional investment in Catalonia is greatly appreciated by the government,” Alcoba said. “This expansion reaffirms the company’s commitment to Catalonia. This is the group’s only factory site in Europe, demonstrating the trust that foreign companies place in Catalonia.”

Miwon’s journey in Catalonia began in 2014 with just two employees, supported by Axio. The company has since experienced steady growth, expanding its workforce to 50 and establishing itself as a key player in the region’s chemical industry.
