MLB Announces Historic Regular Season Game in Seoul

Seoul to Host Historic MLB Regular Season Opener

In a groundbreaking move, Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced that for the first time in history, an official MLB regular season game will take place in Seoul next year. The highly anticipated event will see the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres face off in a two-day series, set to occur between March 20 and 21.

MLB.com has confirmed that these back-to-back games will mark the first official major league contests to be held in Korea as well as being the opening games of the upcoming season. This holds great significance for both Korean fans and players alike.

One notable Korean in the MLB, Ha-seong Kim of the San Diego Padres, expressed his joy, stating, “I am incredibly thrilled at the opportunity to represent San Diego and Major League Baseball in my home country. This is a dream come true.”

While the exact location of the Seoul Series has not been disclosed by the MLB Secretariat, it is widely believed that the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, Korea’s sole domed stadium, will be selected as the venue due to the expected cold weather conditions in late March.

Under the banner of ‘baseball globalization’, the MLB Secretariat has been actively promoting worldwide initiatives, crossing borders and holding official league games in various countries through an agreement with the MLB Players Union.

Next year’s scheduled event will mark the ninth time that the official MLB home opener has been hosted outside the United States. Seoul will become the second Asian city, following Tokyo, to hold the prestigious distinction of hosting the MLB Opening Game.

This significant development is a testament to the growing popularity and reach of baseball on a global scale. Stay tuned for more updates on this historic event.

For the first time in history, an official Major League Baseball (MLB) regular season game will be held in Seoul next year.

The MLB Secretariat announced today (13th) that the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego will open the regular season in Seoul between March 20 and 21 next year.

MLB.com reported that the two consecutive games were the first official major league games to be held in Korea and the regular season opener of next season.

Ha-seong Kim, a Korean batter in San Diego, said, “I am so happy that I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to represent San Diego and Major League Baseball in my home country.”

The MLB Secretariat did not reveal the location of the Seoul Series, but it is known that the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, Korea’s only domed stadium, will be chosen as the venue considering the cold weather at the end of March.

Under the banner of ‘baseball globalization’, the MLB Secretariat has promoted a world tour that crosses the border of the United States and holds regular leagues in other countries under the agreement with the MLB Players Union.

Next year, Seoul will be the ninth time the official MLB home opener has been held outside the United States.

Seoul became the second city in Asia to host the official MLB opening game after Tokyo.
