Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Moffa, known for hits like “Un Viaje” with Karol G and “Bentley Remix,” recently discussed his unique background and approach to mental health. The 22-year-old artist, who released his debut album “Playground” on July 18,has quickly risen to prominence in the music scene.
Moffa was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and raised in the metro area, frequently visiting Isabela and Aguada. He learned early in life that he and his twin sister were adopted after their biological mother died when he was nine months old. His godparents, close friends of his mother, adopted them.
Moffa said his parents were always obvious about his background, encouraging him to explore his roots. He noted that while discrimination exists,he has not experienced bullying due to his adoption or appearance.
The reggaeton artist also revealed that his family in Brazil has maintained contact, though communication is challenging due to the language barrier. He recently connected with his biological father on social media,a situation he described as “challenging” due to the lack of an existing relationship.
Despite this, Moffa remains focused on his present family, who have dedicated their lives to him. He identifies as Puerto rican, embracing his brazilian and Dominican heritage. He experimented with Brazilian funk in his song “SHOP,” exploring sounds he loves and expressing a desire to experience carnival in Brazil.
Moffa believes his life might have been different had his biological mother raised him, potentially leading him toward a more traditional career path. He encourages others who feel like outsiders to embrace their identities and pursue their dreams without shame.
Don’t pity yourself or feel different. You’re a normal person just like all the other people who achieved their dreams, and you can do the same thing… Don’t hide it. Be proud of it, even. Don’t run from it.
regarding mental health,Moffa emphasizes staying grounded, being patient, and managing anxiety by centering his thoughts. He acknowledges the importance of releasing emotions and not letting them overwhelm him in the fast-paced music industry. He stresses the importance of mental health and staying grounded in the music industry.
in this fast-moving industry, you have to stay grounded above all and be aware of your station in life… Sometimes, you simply have to shed tears to release all that anger or anxiety that we feel when faced with adversity.
What’s next
Moffa plans to continue exploring his musical identity and heritage, with potential future projects incorporating Brazilian and Dominican influences. He also aims to prioritize his mental well-being as he navigates his burgeoning career.
