[KNS뉴스통신=조완동 기자] The public health center in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, is stressing compliance with preventive measures such as hand washing and cough etiquette amid concerns over the spread of scarlet fever in group facilities for infants and toddlers amid increasing reports of the fever red.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the number of reported cases of scarlet fever in 2017 was 4904, an increase of 78.5% compared to 2747 cases in the same period last year.

Scarlet fever is an acute febrile illness characterized by a sudden onset of fever, headache, vomiting, abdominal pain, and sore throat, followed 12 to 48 hours later by a characteristic rash.

An official from the Mokpo Public Health Center said, “Severe fever can be treated with antibiotics, and sometimes complications such as rheumatic fever or acute glomerulonephritis can occur, so it is important to receive antibiotic treatment as soon as possible through a medical examination just in case. doubt.” In response, the city’s public health center asked people to comply with ▲ washing hands ▲ observing cough etiquette ▲ disinfecting frequently touched toys, doorknobs, and faucets to prevent scarlet fever.
