The 31st edition of the Jazz à Ouaga festival will be held from April 28 to May 6, 2023. 72 hours before the event, the organizers gave more details on the planned activities and the artistic selections. The president of the organizing committee and his comrades also returned to the security aspect and the choice of theme, this Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

“Jazz, culture and living together”, it is under this theme that the 31st edition of the Jazz à Ouaga festival will be held from April 28 to May 6, 2023. For the president of the organizing committee, Abdoulaye Diallo, the festival has established itself over the years as the “must-see musical event in the Burkinabè cultural landscape”. Convinced of this place, it is a program « riche » as usual, the Jazz à Ouaga festival reserves for lovers of good music.

“This year, we invite you to celebrate and start a new cycle of Jazz in Ouaga after 30 years. We have concocted an intergenerational artistic program to highlight the best of current music, but also emerging groups,” indicated Abdoulaye Diallo.

For the 2023 edition, the CENASA and Canal Olympia Ouaga 2000 stages have been chosen to host the festivities. And as for the other editions, the 31st edition will take place in 3 pillars. These are the musical programs, the meeting of the communities which is an innovation this year, and the festival village which is tinted on the side of Canal Olympia.

To make this edition a success, the organizing committee has indicated that the budget amounts to more than 75 million CFA francs. More than 30 scheduled groups, more than 200 musicians and 9 concert evenings are on the program.

Returning to the theme of this edition of Jazz in Ouaga, Abdoulaye Diallo said that it is a way for them to return to the place of culture in the consolidation of living together in Burkina Faso. For him, music in addition to being physical is intellectual and spiritual.

“Burkina has been going through a multidimensional crisis for several years which has favored intolerance, hatred, division and the culture of individual interest to the detriment of solidarity, giving rise to intra- and inter-community antagonisms which affect living together. Jazz à Ouaga has decided to question the contribution of music in general and jazz in particular in the face of this problem”, he said.

On the security aspect, Drissa Pitroipa, the president of the security commission suggested that the small dishes will be put in the big ones to ensure the total security of the festival-goers. “We will do everything to ensure that everything goes well and that the festival takes place in maximum security”, he slipped.

On the various podiums, festival-goers will have, among others for this 31st edition of Jazz in Ouaga, Bnnyhunna from the Netherlands, Ibiyewa Quartet from Belgium, Etienne Mbappé, the Ali Farka Touré Band, Sekouba Bambino, Bombino, Massa Coulibaly, Mariah Bissongo , Awa Sissao, Floby and Alif Naaba.
