Moroj Adil: Saudi Arabia‘s First Pro Cyclist

Moroj Adil is the first professional cyclist from Saudi Arabia. At 26, she has come a long way in just two years. Her journey began in 2022 when she decided to pursue cycling after watching women’s cycling events.

Despite not knowing how to ride a bike, she joined a cycling group in Jeddah. She borrowed a bike and quickly became part of the cycling community. Adil faced challenges from the start. In her first big race, the 2022 NEOM Titan Desert Race, she used an inappropriate downhill bike and was disqualified. However, she did not let this setback stop her.

In January 2023, she participated in the AlUla Tour, Saudi Arabia’s largest cycling event. There, she connected with professional riders and felt inspired. Adil joined Liv AlUla Jayco Continental Team, which opened new opportunities for her.

Her first year as a professional cyclist was full of challenges and learning. Adil recognized she had to put in a lot of effort compared to more experienced cyclists. Yet, she found joy in the struggle and embraced the hard work.

As the 2023 NEOM Titan Desert Race approaches, Adil aims for a podium finish. She finished second last year and wants to improve. She values her team’s support and feels it is her duty to perform well.

Looking ahead, Adil has big goals. She plans to gain experience with the Continental team. She intends to train in Belgium to face tougher conditions and improve her skills.

Adil aims to inspire young Saudi cyclists. She hopes to see more women in the sport and believes she has opened doors for others. Young women reach out to her to learn about cycling as a career. Adil is optimistic about the growth of women’s cycling in Saudi Arabia.

With her determination and passion, Moroj Adil is not just building her own career; she is paving the way for future generations of cyclists.
