Motion City Soundtrack Announces New Album: The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World

Motion City Soundtrack, the Minneapolis emo and pop-punk band fronted by Justin Pierre, is making a comeback with their first new album in a decade. The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World, their seventh studio album, is scheduled for release Sept. 17 via Epitaph. The lead single, “She Is Afraid,” is available now, accompanied by a music video inspired by Severance.
The album, recorded with Sean O’Keefe at electrical Audio in Chicago, features 11 tracks. Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, Mat Kerekes of Citizen, and Deanna Belos of Sincere Engineer make guest appearances. The band also released “Stop Talking” for the movie Didi last year.
after releasing Panic Stations in 2015, Motion City Soundtrack disbanded. Members relocated, and Pierre pursued a solo career. The band, including guitarist Joshua Cain, bassist Matt Taylor, keyboardist Jesse Johnson, and drummer Tony Thaxton, reunited on New Year’s Eve 2019.They toured in early 2020 before the pandemic. The new album, a fresh take on their signature sound, came together during that time.
“I think that if you look at a lot of our past records, it’s about ‘What’s wrong? What am I not getting right? Why do I feel fucking crazy? Why can’t I figure this out’… and I figured it out,” Pierre said. “It’s almost like I felt I didn’t have an identity [in the past] and now by working through the hard stuff, I know who I am.”
