Mozambique’s First Couple Lands in Vietnam: A Historic Visit to Strengthen Ties
Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi Arrives in Vietnam for Official Visit
On September 8, President of the Republic of Mozambique Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and his wife arrived in Hanoi, marking the beginning of an official visit to Vietnam from September 8-10. The visit is at the invitation of General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife.
This historic visit is President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi’s first to Vietnam since taking office and the first visit to Vietnam by a Mozambican President in over 17 years.
A high-level delegation welcomed the President of Mozambique and his wife at Noi Bai International Airport, including Head of the Office of the President Le Khanh Hai, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Pham Hoang Kim, and leaders of several departments and offices of the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi is accompanied by a delegation of high-ranking officials, including:

President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi was born on February 9, 1959, in Namua, Mueda District, Cabo Delgado Province, Republic of Mozambique. He is fluent in Portuguese and English. The President holds a bachelor’s degree in Advanced Management from Victoria University, Manchester, UK; a master’s degree in Mechatronics from VAAZ de Brno Military Academy, Czech Republic; and has attended numerous management training courses in the US, South Africa, and India.
Throughout his illustrious career, President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi has held various key positions, including:
- Executive Director of the Northern Mozambique Railway Company (1995-2005)
- Executive Director, Port-Railway Corporation (2007-2008)
- Member of the FRELIMO Party Central Committee (September 2012)
- Minister of Defense (March 2008-March 2014)
- President of the Republic of Mozambique (October 15, 2014)
- Chairman of the FRELIMO Party (March 29, 2015)
- Re-elected President (October 15, 2019)
- Re-elected as President of the FRELIMO Party (October 2022)
