Mubi,‍ the global streamer, producer, and film distributor, is set⁣ to broaden its theatrical operations in Italy. This move follows statements from CEO Efe Cakarel regarding the company’s growth strategy.

The company announced ‍Thursday the⁢ appointment of Gabriele D’Andrea as VP and managing director of Mubi Italia. D’Andrea will spearhead Mubi’s expansion into⁣ theatrical distribution within italy. This initiative complements ⁢Mubi’s existing theatrical divisions ‌in North America, Latin America, the U.K., Germany, and Benelux, where releases are managed ​via Cinéart, a company Mubi acquired a majority stake in during 2024.

D’Andrea joins Mubi after a 13-year tenure at Lucky Red, ⁣where he directed theatrical operations. He also serves as CEO of Circuito Cinema, Italy’s⁢ leading network of self-reliant and arthouse cinemas, a role he will maintain alongside his new position at Mubi, according to a company statement.

Mubi Italia plans to launch its theatrical slate later⁤ this year, beginning with ​Lynne Ramsay’s “Die My Love,” starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson.Mubi acquired the rights to this film for the U.S. and other territories at Cannes for $24 million.
