Indian stock markets began the Samvat 2082 year on a cautious note, with benchmark indices settling flat but with a slight positive bias during the special Muhurat trading session held in party of Diwali. This annual tradition marks the commencement of the Hindu calendar year Vikram samvat 2082.
The BSE Sensex closed at 84,426.34, a gain of 62.97 points or 0.07 percent,while the NSE Nifty50 rose 25.45 points or 0.1 percent to 25,868.60.
Broader Market Performance
In the broader markets, the NSE Midcap 100 index increased by 0.11 percent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index rose by 0.52 percent.

The Nifty Bank, PSU Bank, and Realty sectors ended the day in the red. Conversely, Nifty Auto, Energy, Financial Services, IT, Media, Metal, Pharma, Consumer Durables, and Oil & Gas sectors closed with marginal gains.

Among the Sensex constituents, Bajaj Finserv, Infosys, Axis Bank, Tata Steel, Power grid, and Bajaj Finance were the top-performing stocks. Kotak Mahindra Bank,HCL Technologies,ICICI Bank,Maruti Suzuki,and Asian Paints experienced the largest declines.
2,213 stocks on the NSE ended with gains, while 710 closed lower, and 116 remained unchanged. 106 stocks reached new 52-week highs, and 36 fell to their 52-week lows.
