Despite signals from Elon Musk suggesting a willingness to de-escalate, betting markets indicate that a repaired relationship between him and former President Donald Trump is unlikely in the near future. The Trump-Musk feud, which recently spilled into the public sphere, has captured attention, with various prediction markets now weighing in on the potential for reconciliation or further fallout.
Polymarket, a blockchain-based betting platform, gives a 31% chance that Trump and Musk will publicly reconcile before July. The odds of Trump apologizing to Musk before June 9 are a mere 2%, following Trump’s statement that he is “not notably” interested in speaking with Musk.
kalshi, another prediction market, assesses a 34% chance that Trump will unfollow Musk on X, and a 36% chance that Musk will unfollow Trump, indicating the potential for further social media relationship fallout.However, Kalshi also suggests a 55% chance that the two will speak before July. Polymarket sets the odds of a meeting at 20% by June 30, 37% by July 31, and 59% by the end of the year.
The feud began when Musk criticized Trump’s policy bill, calling it “massive, outrageous, pork-filled” and a “revolting abomination.” He also reposted an old tweet from Trump criticizing debt ceiling extensions. Trump responded by claiming Musk suffers from “Trump derangement syndrome.”
Musk responded to Bill ackman’s suggestion that he and Trump “should make peace for the benefit of our great country” with “not wrong.” however, Trump dismissed the idea of immediate talks, stating Musk had ”lost his mind.”
