Ongoing clashes between the military and anti-coup forces in Myanmar have forced hundreds of families ⁢to flee their homes. A community organizer reported that villagers are loading their belongings onto evacuation convoys to escape the fighting.

The civil war in Myanmar, triggered by the military’s 2021⁣ coup, ‍has resulted in over 3.5 million displaced people,according to the United Nations. Recent heavy combat has centered around Saung Nang Khae village in Shan state as June 9.

On Friday, families were transported to temporary shelters in BC Kone, about 40 miles‍ southwest, using ‍tractors packed with livestock, ⁤wheelchairs, and suitcases. Khun Pyae Linn, spokesman for the ⁢Kayan New Land Party’s youth wing, stated on Saturday that “rescue operations are still ongoing.”

Linn added that while his association helped evacuate more than 600 people, the total number of villagers moved to⁢ safe shelters could exceed 1,500, thanks to assistance from other groups. Despite pledges ⁤of truce following a magnitude ⁤7.7 earthquake ‍in March that killed over 3,700, fighting continues.

Anyne⁢ Zel,24,said she was forced to evacuate due to artillery and⁤ airstrikes,marking her second displacement in two years. “I want⁣ to ask them to stop the war,” Zel said on Friday. ⁣”Every time they fight the victims⁣ are us, the civilians. I don’t even think about the future of our lives anymore.”

After ‍four years ⁣of war, the military conscription aims to⁣ reinforce⁢ its ranks after⁣ territorial losses against anti-coup fighters. However, analysts note that the military maintains a hardware advantage through support from China and Russia.

Lone Phaw, 63, a farmer, recounted that⁤ the ⁤sudden fighting in Saung Nang Khae forced him and ⁢his wife ⁣to flee with minimal possessions. “We only had time to run when it happened,” phaw said. “we can’t⁢ guess what our future holds.”
