Simran Kaur achieved financial independence at age 29, having accumulated enough investments to generate $150,000 annually in passive income after just 10 years of focused saving and investing.

She reached what is known in the Financial Independence, Retire Early (FIRE) movement as her “FIRE number” — the point where investment returns can cover living expenses indefinitely — allowing her the option to retire early while choosing to continue working.

Kaur’s approach to FIRE differs from more extreme interpretations of the movement. She maintains a lifestyle that includes designer handbags (purchased secondhand), rented clothing, and frequent air travel, which she shares with over 1 million followers online.

Rather than using her platform to encourage consumption, Kaur focuses on “de-influencing” her audience. She declined a free designer wedding dress, opting instead to give one away, reflecting her commitment to promoting mindful spending over materialism.

She has been transparent about her financial journey, regularly sharing details of her side hustles’ income, net worth updates, investment choices, and even the profit and loss statements of her podcast.

Kaur first gained attention from financial journalist and broadcaster Nadine Higgins when she spoke at an event Higgins was hosting. Higgins later featured Kaur in her personal finance podcast, The Prosperity Project, where she discussed the realities of early retirement.

Despite achieving financial independence, Kaur continues to work, emphasizing that FIRE is not solely about leaving employment but about gaining the freedom to choose how one spends their time and resources.
