Nam Young-hee Files Lawsuit to Supreme Court to Invalidate Election in Incheon – Demand for Clarity on Vote Counting Errors

Nam Young-hee, a Democratic Party candidate who ran for Dong-gu and Michuhol-gu constituencies in Incheon in the April 10 general election and lost to People Power Party candidate Yoon Sang-hyun by about 1,000 votes, filed a lawsuit to The Supreme Court invalidates the election.

Candidate Nam said at a press conference held today in front of the Supreme Court: “I strongly call on the Supreme Court to clearly clarify the likelihood of errors in the vote counting results which could be the result of procedural errors on the part of the National Election Commission.” .

They claim that the National Election Commission made procedural errors that violated election rules, such as failing to properly announce the vote counting process on election day, and call for clarification of the possibility that vote counting was consequently wrong.

″At the same time as punishing those responsible for illegal election management, the general elections in Michuhol-gu, Dong-gu and Incheon should be invalidated. Correcting even the smallest flaws in the rigorous National Election Commission will be the first step in resolving widespread suspicions of electoral fraud in our society and a path towards realizing social justice.”

Previously, candidate Nam said observers had only confirmed the counting of four of the seven early voting ballot boxes outside the building and asked that the remaining three ballot boxes be counted again.

Subsequently, at the request of candidate Nam, the National Election Commission conducted a recount with observers, and when there was no change in the results, candidate Nam announced that he would accept the election results.

Candidate Nam’s side explained why he refiled an invalidation case with the Supreme Court after declaring acceptance, saying, “That doesn’t mean we will oppose it. It means there was a problem with the procedure of vote counting and should be resolved immediately.”

Candidate Nam received 57,705 votes in the last election, losing to People Power Party candidate Yoon Sang-hyun by a margin of 1,025 votes, and was defeated by a margin of 171 votes in the 21st general election four years ago.
