The grandson of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, who was put on trial on charges of selling and possessing marijuana, had his sentence reduced on appeal.

On the 20th, Criminal Division 6-3 of the Seoul High Court (Chief Judge Eui-young Lee, Jong-chan Won, and Won-cheol Park) sentenced Mr. Hong, the grandson of the late Honorary Chairman Hong Du-young, founder of Namyang Dairy Products, to two years in prison, who was indicted on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (marijuana). The original trial was overturned and sentenced to one year and six months in prison. He was also ordered to complete a 40-hour drug addiction rehabilitation program and pay a fine of 35.1 million won.

The court said, “The defendant acquired a considerable amount of financial benefit by selling marijuana worth 35 million won 16 times and possessed a large amount of marijuana at his residence.”

However, “We took into account the fact that the defendant actively cooperated with the investigation by providing detailed information on the crimes of his accomplices, and that he sold marijuana to acquaintances who had already smoked marijuana, such as Mr. Cho, the third generation of a conglomerate,” and “He admitted to most of the crimes.” · He stated the reason for his sentencing, saying, “He is reflecting and has no history of being punished for the same type of crime.”

Mr. Hong was brought to trial in October last year on charges of selling marijuana once and possessing and smoking 62 mL of liquid marijuana and 14 grams of marijuana. The first trial sentenced him to two years in prison.
