Napak Officials Pledge Transparency After Audit Findings

Napak District officials have pledged to increase transparency and accountability following the release of the Auditor General’s findings. The Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition (KACC) presented the findings on May 30, 2025, in Napak District.
Chief Administrative Officer Okumu Bedijo James said the district will work with KACC to promote transparency.Bedijo, recognized in 2024 as the Best Local Government Manager in Karamoja by KACC, made the remarks at the Farmers Hall in Napak District.
The audit report highlighted issues such as problems in the roads sector, delayed disbursement of PDM funds, education concerns, a lack of motorcycles for extension workers, and pension arrears. Nakoya Joyce, the Napak District Education officer, attributed pupil variances in headcounts and EMIS to parents delaying with their nins. She added that efforts are underway to complete seed schools and improve sanitation.
lodungokol Simon Peter, the district production officer, said the district is working to fill vacant extension officer positions, with some already recruited.Napak Resident District Commissioner Milton Odongo thanked civil society organizations for empowering citizens to demand accountability and stressed the need for cooperation to combat corruption in Karamoja.
Sophia Lomongin, a KACC project officer, thanked Napak District officials for attending the meeting. Dr. Ayub Mukisa, KACC’s Executive Director, expressed gratitude to the embassies of Denmark, The Netherlands, Sweden, and Ireland for funding the coalition’s activities.
