Nathan Eovaldi Agrees to Three-Year Deal with Texas Rangers
Rangers Re-Sign World Series Hero Nathan Eovaldi to Three-year Deal
Arlington, TX – The Texas Rangers are bringing back a familiar face to their starting rotation, agreeing to a three-year, $75 million contract with veteran right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, according to sources.
Eovaldi, who turned 35 in February, opted out of his $20 million player option for the 2024 season after a stellar performance in 2023. The option was triggered after he reached 300 combined innings pitched between the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The deal marks a return to Texas for Eovaldi, who signed a two-year, $34 million contract with the Rangers in December 2022. During that stint, he posted a 3.72 ERA with 298 strikeouts in 314.2 innings.
Eovaldi was instrumental in the Rangers’ historic World Series run in 2023, going 5-0 with a 2.95 ERA in six postseason starts. This marked his second World Series title, having previously won with the Boston Red Sox in 2018.
“Nathan was a key piece of our championship team,” said Rangers General Manager Chris Young. “His experience and leadership were invaluable, and we’re thrilled to have him back in Texas.”
While Eovaldi has battled injuries throughout his career, including Tommy John surgery in 2016, he has been remarkably consistent as turning 30.
His ERA has remained between 3.63 and 3.87 in each of the last five seasons, showcasing his ability to adapt and remain effective.
Eovaldi’s return solidifies the Rangers’ starting rotation, which already boasts young stars like Jacob deGrom and Jon Gray. With Eovaldi’s veteran presence and playoff experience, the Rangers are poised to make another deep postseason run in 2024.
