National Assembly Shortens Extraordinary Session Amid Arrest Warrant Concerns

National Assembly Shortens Extraordinary Session Schedule

In a decision made by the National Assembly, the extraordinary session scheduled for August will be shortened and concluded tomorrow. The Democratic Party spearheaded the effort to reduce the agenda, which was passed in today’s full meeting.

One of the key reasons behind the move was the potential arrest of Lee Jae-myeong. The Democratic Party emphasized the importance of addressing this issue during the current session.

Agenda Changes Approved in National Assembly Full Meeting

The full meeting of the National Assembly successfully passed its first agenda, which involved advancing the extraordinary session scheduled for the end of August to conclude tomorrow. This decision was led by the Democratic Party.

During the period when the National Assembly is in session, members hold the privilege of not being arrested or detained without the Assembly’s permission. This privilege has earned the Assembly the nickname ‘Bangtan National Assembly’.

In order to prevent a bulletproof National Assembly, the Democratic Party proposed a one-week closure of the Assembly until the regular session commencing on the 1st of next month. If the prosecution seeks an arrest warrant for Lee Jae-myung during this closed period, it will undergo review.

“I have voluntarily waived my privilege of not being arrested and publicly stated that I will comply with a warrant review. They should try again in a few months and proceed.”…

On the other hand, the opposition argues that the Democratic Party’s request to divide the session is an attempt to exert power. They have even visited the Speaker of the National Assembly, who will present the agenda.

If the prosecution requests an arrest warrant while the National Assembly is in session, a full vote on Representative Lee Jae-myeong will be necessary, and this process may reveal internal divisions within the Democratic Party.

“I will go to the prosecutor’s office. They resorted to all sorts of nonsense in order to quickly investigate and finally locked the doors of the National Assembly.”

However, the prosecution maintains its position to summon and investigate CEO Lee Jae-myeong on the 30th. Considering the prosecution’s timetable, it is unlikely that a warrant application for Representative Lee will be submitted during the week when the National Assembly is closed, as hoped by the Democratic Party.

“I will go to the prosecutor’s office, so I used a bunch of nonsense to immediately investigate, and finally lock the door of the National Assembly.”

However, the prosecution maintains its position that it will summon and investigate CEO Lee Jae-myeong on the 30th.

As the warrant application is made after the subpoena investigation, it appears that there will not be a warrant application for Representative Lee during the week when the National Assembly is closed, as the Democratic Party hopes , according to the prosecution’s timetable.
