Nebraska Moves 2027 Season Opener Against Miami (Ohio) to Arrowhead Stadium

Nebraska will open its 2027 college football season against Miami (Ohio) at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., on Friday, Aug. 27, according to an announcement by the University of Nebraska.

The matchup marks the second time in three seasons that the Huskers will open a campaign at Arrowhead Stadium. Nebraska previously opened the 2025 season at Arrowhead Stadium, where the team defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats 20-17 before a crowd of red-clad fans. According to University of Nebraska records, the program holds a 2-1 all-time record at the stadium dating back to 1998.

The game was originally scheduled to be played in Lincoln on Sept. 11, 2027. However, officials moved the contest to the season’s opening week after the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) Oversight Committee adjusted the playing calendar to allow schools to begin competition a week earlier.

Scheduling Adjustments and Future Matchups

“Our fans and team enjoyed the game in Kansas City a year ago, and shortly after that contest we began having discussions with the Chiefs about returning to Arrowhead,” said Haven Fields, Nebraska deputy athletic director and chief operating officer. Fields noted that the scheduling shift provided an opportunity to utilize another major venue while Memorial Stadium in Lincoln operates at a reduced capacity, all while preserving a seven-game home slate for local fans. The upcoming game in Kansas City will serve as the first-ever meeting between Nebraska and Miami (Ohio). In addition to the neutral-site opener, the two schools have agreed to a subsequent game scheduled for Sept. 6, 2031, in Lincoln. University officials indicated that the FBS calendar modifications will likely necessitate further adjustments to dates for previously scheduled non-conference games in future seasons.

Remainder of the 2027 Non-Conference Slate

Following the neutral-site opener in Kansas City, the Huskers will return to Lincoln to complete their non-conference schedule. Nebraska is scheduled to play Northern Illinois on Sept. 4 and Northern Iowa on Sept. 18. A Big Ten Conference matchup is anticipated for the intervening weekend on Sept. 11.

University of Nebraska officials confirmed that the Miami (Ohio) matchup at Arrowhead Stadium will not be included in the athletic department’s standard seven-game season ticket package for 2027. Specific ticketing information and purchase details for the Kansas City game will be released at a later date.
