In the fall of 2021, Iordache was sentenced by the Bucharest Court of Appeal to 11 years and 9 months in prison for the misappropriation of european funds on the first section of the Nădlac-Arad highway. The damage amounted to 1.2 billion lei.
Judges have now ruled that two of the offenses for which Nelu Iordache had been convicted, namely misappropriation of European funds and embezzlement, have been statute-barred. Consequently, thes convictions have been annulled and the sentences no longer need to be served.
Subsequently, the Bucharest Court of appeal combined the remaining sentences for forgery, fraud, and another conviction, and established a new sentence of 5 years and 10 months in prison, half of what the businessman had initially received. As this second sentence has already been served,Nelu Iordache has been released from prison.
