Egypt Rejects Netanyahu’s Statement

Egypt has completely⁤ rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement about‌ its commitment⁣ to the Israeli army in‍ the Philadelphia Axis in the Gaza Strip.

An Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement said Cairo held the Israeli government responsible for the ⁤consequences⁢ of those​ statements, which it described as worsening the situation and leading to further tensions in the region.

Netanyahu’s Statement

At a press conference yesterday Monday, Netanyahu refused to‍ show any flexibility regarding Israel’s presence in the Philadelphia axis along the Egyptian⁢ border, to allow the end ⁣of the cease-fire ‌agreement, emphasizing the need for Israel to control it and represent a He said, Hamas is⁢ the ⁢main lifeline of the⁤ movement.

Netanyahu said he refused ⁢to withdraw from‍ the Philadelphia axis⁣ when Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005 ‍to ensure “the achievement of the war ⁣objective goes through the Philadelphia ⁢axis so that hostages are not⁣ smuggled out of Gaza and weapons ​do not flow into Gaza”.

An Egyptian Foreign ⁤Ministry​ statement‍ issued‌ on Tuesday ‌said Netanyahu had tried to “inject Egypt’s name to confuse Israeli public opinion” and try to ⁣derail mediation efforts to reach ‌a cease-fire agreement.

The⁣ statement noted that these statements​ are aimed at “justifying aggressive​ and ​inflammatory policies”⁢ that lead to further tensions in the region.

Egypt’s Interest in Peace

Egypt emphasized its interest in continuing⁣ its “historic role⁤ in leading the​ peace process” ⁣in the ​region, leading⁤ to the preservation of regional peace and security.

Mediation Efforts

Over the ‌past few​ months, Egypt, Qatar and the United States⁤ have been ⁢leading mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas⁢ to reach⁣ an agreement on a ceasefire and exchange of hostages and prisoners.

Palestinian Presidency’s Response

The Palestinian Presidency ‍responded in a statement, stressing that ​”the Palestinian-Egyptian border is sovereign ⁢and we reject the‌ presence of any Israeli forces⁤ on the Philadelphia axis or the Rafah crossing.”

Continued Operations​ in Gaza

On the ground, an aerial bombardment in front of ⁤the gate of al-Fakhoura school, home to displaced people in the Jabalia⁣ camp⁤ in the northern Gaza Strip, raised the death toll to eight, in addition to the number⁢ of⁣ injured who were transferred to Kamal Adwan Hospital.

Earlier, Israeli forces killed two Palestinians, including a child,⁢ in ⁣a target northwest of the Nusirat ⁢camp in ​the central Gaza Strip.

Occupied West ⁤Bank

The Palestinian Health Ministry said 30 Palestinians were killed and about 130 wounded in the occupied West Bank after the Israeli military operation began last Wednesday, bringing​ the death toll to 682 and wounding nearly 5,700 ⁢in the​ West Bank governorate. Last ⁤October 7.
