New Dating App Hulah Ensures Women’s Safety with Endorsed Profiles
In recent times, many women have expressed discomfort with dating apps, preferring to be alone rather than risk negative interactions with men. A Pew Research study reveals that only 38% of single women are interested in dating, compared to 61% of single men.
To address safety concerns, actress Heather Hopkins created Hulah, a dating app that requires women to endorse men they know or for men to pass background checks. This app aims to connect women with trustworthy men.
Hopkins was inspired by her own negative experience with a dating app. She stated, “I was raped in college from a guy on a dating app. I was hurting silently for so long.” Hulah allows anyone to endorse men, creating a safer environment for single women. The app currently has about 300,000 users and has gained popularity, even appearing on a Times Square billboard.
The need for safer dating apps is highlighted by alarming statistics. According to a study, one-third of surveyed women reported sexual assault by a person they met through a dating app. Other reports show that 14% of rapes committed by acquaintances occurred during initial meetings arranged via dating apps.
In summary, Hulah offers a new approach to online dating by emphasizing safety and trust, filling a gap in the dating app market. If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual assault, resources are available for support, such as the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800.656.HOPE (4673).
