[철도경제신문=장병극 기자] GTX-A fares between Suseo and Dongtan have been confirmed. For people aged 19 or older using the Suseo-Dongtan section, they pay 4,450 won. Transfer discounts apply in the metropolitan area, and the K-Pass, which will be implemented starting in May, can also be used.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 21st, the base fare for the newly opened GTX between Suseo and Dongtan is 3,200 won. In addition, a distance fee of 250 won is added for every 5km (applied when more than 10km). Accordingly, Suseo-Dongtan must pay 4,450 won, and Suseo-Seongnam must pay 3,450 won.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport explained, “Given that the SRT, which runs the same Suseo-Dongtan section, takes 17 minutes, similar to the GTX, the price is much lower. If you take advantage of various discount programmes, it becomes even cheaper.”

Transfer discounts also apply to GTX-A. Although it’s a semi-high-speed train, you don’t have to pay extra base fares when transferring between GTX and buses and subways in metropolitan areas like Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi-do. For the SRT high-speed train, the fare for the Suseo-Dongtan section is 7,400 won, and transfer discounts are not given.

People with transport disabilities can receive price reductions when using GTX. However, free riding does not apply like regular buses and trains.

Children aged 6 to 12 get a 50% discount, young people aged 13 to 18 get a 10% discount, seniors aged 65 or over get a 30% discount, and people with disabilities and veterans get a 50% discount.

You can also use the K-Pass, which will be implemented starting in May. K-Pass is a public transport service that generally provides a refund of 20% of the amount spent if you use public transport more than 15 times a month.

If you ride the GTX-A Suseo-Dongtan section with K-Pass, you can use it for 3,560 won. Young people between the ages of 19 and 34 can ride for 3,110 won (a 30% reduction), and low-income people can ride for 2,070 won (a 53.3% reduction).

At weekends, the basic rate is discounted by 10%. In addition, babies and toddlers under 6 can ride for free, up to 3 people per guardian, just like on the metropolitan subway.

If you retag your transit card within 10 minutes at the same station, you do not need to pay additional fees. This service is currently being operated in the Seoul subway.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Park Sang-woo said, “We have tried to establish fares and transfer systems at the most reasonable level by comprehensively considering the time-reducing effect of GTX,” and added, “We ask the public to use it with interest big.”
