New Hampshire GOP Lawmaker Faces Discipline Over ‘Final Solution’ Tweet

A New Hampshire state representative is facing potential disciplinary action after using the phrase “final solution” in a social media post directed at a Jewish colleague. Republican Rep. Travis Corcoran made the comment in response to an invitation from Rep. Jessica Grill, a Democrat, to join a bipartisan “karaoke caucus.”

The incident occurred last month, according to reporting from the Jewish Telegraphic Agency and New Hampshire Public Radio. Corcoran’s post, which also included a call for a “final solution for theater kids,” drew immediate criticism from Grill and civil rights groups. The phrase “final solution” is widely recognized as a reference to the Nazi plan to commit genocide against European Jews during World War II.

Lawmaker Defends Post as a ‘Joke’

Corcoran defended his comments during a hearing before a House committee on Monday, claiming they were intended as a joke and that he was unaware of Grill’s religious affiliation. “A joke is now being treated as though it were an act of malice, and sarcasm is being recast as hate speech. This represents absurd,” Corcoran stated, reading from prepared remarks titled “Kangaroo Court.” He further argued that the proceedings were “political theater as a disciplinary weapon” and declined to answer questions from the committee following his testimony.
