A joint research team between Seoul National University and Chong Kun Dang Bio has discovered a probiotic strain that helps treat diabetes. Through joint research with Chong Kun Dang Bio, Professor Heo Cheol-seong’s research group at the Graduate School of International Agricultural Technology of Seoul National University demonstrated that the antidiabetic probiotic strain “Bifidobacterium longum NBM7-1 (CKD1) ” is useful in the treatment of diabetes when used in combination with diabetes treatment. It was announced on the 4th that it had been done.

Diabetes medications control blood sugar by increasing insulin secretion in the intestines or increasing glucose uptake in the liver. In this process, researchers found that the probiotic strain “CKD1” further enhances this function of diabetes treatment. Through animal experiments, the research team confirmed that the CKD1 strain strengthens the intestinal cell wall, suppresses fatty liver and improves insulin resistance. The research team said: “We have laid the scientific foundation to suggest a new direction in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, suggesting the possibility of a new functional probiotic with antidiabetic effects.” Chong Kun Dang Bio announced that it will use the CKD1 strain to develop functional health foods and veterinary drugs for the treatment of diabetes in companion animals.
