New Spokespersons Appointed at Presidential Communication Office: Strengthening Indonesia’s Voice

New Spokespersons Appointed in Indonesia
On November 19, 2024, the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) in Indonesia welcomed six new spokespersons. The ceremony took place in Jakarta, led by PCO head Hasan Nasbi. He highlighted the importance of clear communication in conveying President Prabowo Subianto‘s policies.
Philips Vermonte, the dean of social sciences at the Indonesian International Islamic University, and Ujang Komaruddin, a well-known political scientist, were among the new appointees. Philips holds a PhD in comparative politics from Northern Illinois University and is a senior fellow at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies. He also chairs the Indonesian Association for Public Opinion Surveys.
Ujang Komaruddin is a professor of political science at Al-Azhar University Indonesia. He earned his political science doctorate from the University of Indonesia in 2013. Ujang founded the Indonesia Political Review in 2016, where he serves as executive director.
The PCO introduced four additional spokespersons: Adita Irawati, Prita Laura, Dedek Prayudi, and Hariqo Wibawa Satria.
- Adita has experience in public relations and served as a special staff member under former president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in 2018.
- Prita is a former journalist and TV presenter.
- Dedek represents the Indonesian Solidarity Party, which backed Prabowo’s successful presidential campaign.
- Hariqo was a spokesperson for Prabowo’s campaign team.
Hasan Nasbi also appointed new special staff members and senior experts to the PCO. The PCO is a new government agency, serving as the official voice of President Prabowo. The office has replaced the role of an individual spokesperson and ranks alongside cabinet ministers.
