A devastating tour bus accident occurred yesterday evening on a highway approximately 40 kilometers east of Buffalo, New York, leaving at least five people dead and dozens more injured. The bus, carrying 51 passengers and a driver, rolled over while traveling back to New York City following a visit to Niagara Falls.
According to New York State Police Commander Major Andre Ray,preliminary investigations suggest the bus operator may have become distracted,leading to a loss of control,an overcorrection,and ultimately,the rollover. Every person on board sustained some form of injury, New York State Trooper James O’Callaghan confirmed.
Passengers and Rescue Efforts
The passengers on board the bus where of Indian, Chinese, and filipino origin. Emergency responders faced a challenging scene, with multiple passengers trapped within the wreckage requiring extrication. Others were ejected from the bus during the rollover, coming to rest across the highway and in a ditch along the shoulder of the road.
A massive rescue operation was launched, involving eight helicopters from Mercy Flight, a non-profit air ambulance service, as stated by its president, Margaret Ferrentino. While no other life-threatening conditions were reported beyond the initial fatalities, numerous passengers received on-site medical treatment and were subsequently released.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed the tragic loss of five lives via a post on the social platform X.An official statement from New York State Police also acknowledged “several fatalities.” Senator Chuck Schumer expressed his heartbreak over the incident, thanking the first responders for their swift action.
