YouTube Enhances Smart TV Experience with multiview, New Player
YouTube is doubling down on its presence on smart TVs, introducing a multiview feature and a redesigned video player. Teh enhancements, revealed around the platform’s 20th anniversary, aim to solidify YouTube’s position as a dominant force in both content consumption and advertising revenue within the smart TV landscape.
Multiview: Watch Up to Four Streams at Once
The upcoming multiview mode will allow users to stream up to four videos concurrently, displayed in a 2×2 grid. While the specific grid arrangements are not yet finalized, the feature is expected to offer adaptability similar to video conferencing layouts. One limitation: parallel viewing of sports content will not be supported, despite its presence in preview images.
The practicality of watching four simultaneous streams is debatable. While picture-in-picture may suffice for some, YouTube is betting that a segment of its user base will embrace the multiview option.
Redesigned Video Player Coming This summer
Along with multiview,YouTube is rolling out a revamped video player for smart TVs. The new interface, slated for release “this summer,” presents a cleaner and more comprehensive layout. the top section displays the video title, channel name, view count, and upload date. The bottom area provides video and channel information on the left, player controls in the center, and interaction options on the right.
youtube aims to optimize the TV viewing experience with this update. Minor adjustments may occur before the final release, but the core design is expected to remain consistent across all smart TVs.
