Before UFC 316, Newark, N.J., hosted UFC 169, a night highlighted by two championship bouts. José Aldo, a UFC Hall of Famer, successfully defended his featherweight belt against Ricardo Lamas in teh co-main event. aldo secured the victory by winning four of the five rounds in a competitive fight.
The main event showcased a bantamweight title rematch between Renan Barão and Urijah Faber. Their initial encounter at UFC 149 saw Barão emerge victorious via a unanimous decision after five rounds. However, the second fight concluded much faster. Barão landed a powerful leg kick, followed by a right hand that dropped Faber. Even though Faber returned to his feet, Barão quickly landed another right hand, resulting in a second knockdown. The referee stopped the fight after a few ground strikes, extending Barão’s unbeaten streak to 32.
