NewJeans Speaks Out Against Unfair Treatment by HYBE
Late last month, ADOR, a sub-brand of Korean entertainment company HYBE, announced that Min Hee-jin, the CEO and founder of NewJeans, would be retiring. This news shocked fans and worried the members of NewJeans. In a recent live broadcast, the group addressed the situation and expressed their concerns about the unfair treatment they have been receiving from the company.
In the 34-minute live broadcast, the five members of NewJeans announced that they would be suspending all group activities and focusing on individual projects. They also revealed that they had only learned about Min Hee-jin’s resignation through the news and felt disrespected by the company. The members stated that they had encountered unkind treatment from the company after Min Hee-jin’s departure and that the new representative had failed to provide any real help.
Hanni, a member of NewJeans, shared a personal experience where she was ignored by another group’s manager on the fourth floor of the company. She reported the incident to the new representative, but the response was dismissive and unhelpful. Minji, another member, also responded to the company, but there was no resolution.
The group also expressed their concerns about the recent leak of videos and chat records from their trainee days. They felt uneasy and unprotected, and worried that more serious privacy issues could occur in the future.
NewJeans stated that their goal is to make good music and perform on stage with Min Hee-jin. However, this goal seems to be getting further away. The group’s music videos and YouTube channels have been removed without warning, leaving them feeling powerless.
The members of NewJeans publicly appealed to HYBE, requesting that Chairman Bang Si Hyuk and the company restore ADOR to its original state. They asked for the reinstatement of Min Hee-jin and the merger of management and production operations. The group emphasized that this is the only solution that will not conflict with NewJeans and HYBE.
Hanni stated that she will not blindly follow the company’s instructions in the future. She believes that HYBE’s decisions are not in the best interest of the artists and may hinder their work and demoralize the members.
NewJeans has set up a new channel for future live broadcasts and will focus on this platform. However, after the live broadcast, the channel and video were removed from the shelves.
