League Plus – Feyenoord coach Arne Slott has confirmed that he is in talks about taking over as Liverpool’s new coach this summer.

The 45-year-old emerged this week as the favorite to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, with the long-serving German set to step down at the end of this season after nine years in charge.

Liverpool were interested in signing Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim, among others, but have now identified Slott as their first target to lead their new era.

Reports suggested that the Merseyside side had officially opened talks with Feyenoord on Wednesday, but the Dutch club rejected their initial offer.

Negotiations have progressed over the past day, and Slott is now “confident” that an agreement can be reached.

Slot has made a name for himself in his native Netherlands throughout his coaching career so far, impressing during his spell in charge of Cambuur, AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord.

The former midfielder has not coached or played for any club outside the Netherlands, but has now confirmed that talks are underway with Liverpool, and that he wants to take charge at Anfield.

“I would like to become the new Liverpool manager, my decisions are clear,” Slott told ESPN ahead of his side’s match against Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday.

He concluded, “Feyenoord and Liverpool are in talks to negotiate. I am waiting to see what comes out of that. I am confident, waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement.”
